Description and growing instructions below from Hudson Valley Seeds.

Fat roots wonderful for winter storage.

A carrot that gets sweeter with age--long storage being one of its best features--the Red-Cored Chantenay is a classic blunt-tipped carrot. For years it was used in the U.S. as the standard processing-industry carrot--a testament to its flavor, we're sure. Dark roots average two and an-half-inch diameter, and boast a sweet, carroty flavor.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS.

Direct sow from mid-April until early August in friable, fertile, deeply worked soil. Choose your least weedy soil for carrots, as they are tricky to cultivate when young; carrots can take 10 days to germinate, and can be quickly choked about by weeds. Thin young carrots seedlings to 2" apart, then thin baby carrots by pulling out every other carrot, allowing the remaining carrots to grow to full size.
